The mega-ships orderbook is increasing

Currently, the largest containership by TEU capacity is the 21,413 TEU OOCL Hong Kong, delivered in May 2017.

The record is however to be overcome: although not yet confirmed directly by the company, the French company CMA CGM would order two Chinese shipyards 9 ships with a capacity of 22,000 TEUs for a $ 1 billion investment.

SeaIntel analysis, recording the news and the existing orderbook, revealed that when the second half of 2017 was compared with the second half of 2019, the 2M Alliance would only experience a 3.2% growth in deployed capacity, and the THE Alliance would see an increase of 11.9%. The Ocean Alliance, by comparison, would see a significantly higher capacity increase of 24.6% in the same period.

A recent news talks about a MSC plan to invest over $ 1.5 billion for 11 vessels also of 22,000 TEUs to be built at a shipyard in South Korea.
