Morocco invests 1 billion euro in the port sector
The port of Casablanca will be the first stop to be enhanced, with an investment of 350 million euro. The project involves the construction of a tourist dock and a new cruise terminal, the expansion of the commercial area and an area dedicated entirely to shipbuilding. Most of the funds for the construction of these infrastructures will be public, as well as those already used to strengthen the network of national freight near the city of Casablanca.
The other port that the Moroccan government is planning to consolidate is Nador, located about six miles south of Melilla, in the Mediterranean basin. The plan includes the construction of an airport that will have the capacity of 3 million TEU. For the moment the funds available are about 750 million euro but it is conceivable that they may soon increase, at least according to what is a broader development project that the African country has planned until 2030. For only in 2015 in fact, there are public contracts for a total amount of 3.2 billion euro. And among the sectors that absorb higher provisions is just the maritime sector, not to mention that is undergoing the expansion of the mega port of Tangier, with the realization of the project Tanger Med II.
