Spanish ports: -6.4% for Barcelona and +15.3% for Valencia
In the first two months of 2015 the port of Barcelona handled a total of 6.4 million tons of freight, a decrease of 6.4% compared to 6.9 million tonnes in the first two months of the previous year. Liquid bulk cargo totaled 1.8 million tons (-13.4%), while the dry bulk totaled 597mila tons (-20.4%). The passenger traffic was 220 thousand persons (-1.8%), of which 147 thousand cruise passengers (-3.3%) and 73 thousand passengers of the regular lines (+1.4%).
In the first two months of 2015 the port of Valencia has handled a container traffic amounted to 757,105 TEUs, with an increase of + 15.3% compared to the same period last year. The export traffic increased by 6.0% and that of imports by 8.6%. Overall, the port system formed from the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia has handled a traffic of goods amounted to over 10.7 million tons, an increase of 9.3% compared to January -February 2014.
