In the first six months of this year the port of Antwerp handled 98,229,046 tonnes of cargo, a volume which is a new record half-year of the airport traffic Belgian and an increase of 2.7% compared to the first half of 2013. In only the area of the container traffic was 53,553,954 tons (+4.0%) with an all-embracing movement of containers amounted to 4,416,132 TEUs (+2.9%) and only in March recorded a new monthly record.
In the segment of the rolling stock were handled 2,346,506 tons, an increase of 1.3% over the first half of 2013, while the traffic of motor vehicles decreased by 1.4% to 643 164 units. Also decreased the volume of conventional goods, which fell 6.0% to 5,028,876 tons. About the decline of conventional loads, the Antwerp Port Authority has shown that this decrease is mainly due to the fact that trafficking in fruit falls gradually lesser extent in this segment increasingly being shipped in containers.The liquid bulk traffic increased by 4.0% to 30,429,085 tons; while the volume of dry bulk cargo amounted to a total of 6,870,625 tons, a decrease of -5.0% compared to the first half of 2013.
