DP World is investing in ship-to-shore cranes and rubber-tyred gantry cranes at its container terminal in the port of Algiers.
The Dubai-based port operator has launched a two-year upgrade programme at DP World Djazair.
The Algiers Port Authority has begun refurbishing the yard to prepare for the arrival of the new equipment, the terminal operator reported yesterday. DP World Djazair will rebuild the shipside berths to accommodate the container cranes, as well as repair three berths to improve efficiency, safety and security.
DP World was awarded the concession to operate the container terminal in the port of Algiers in 2008. DP World Djazair is a joint venture between DP World and the Algiers Port Authority (EPAL).
