Danish shipping line Maersk is to invest $3 billion a year, between 2015 and 2019, to purchase ships with a combined capacity of 425,000 TEUs. This operation will help the firm compete in a market that increasingly favours larger capacity ships.
The investment will see Maersk take delivery of up to 30 Triple E vessels, which are currently the largest in the world in terms of capacity. The new vessels will be Maersk’s first orders of new ships in three years.
