Cargo boom for Spanish ports
In the first eight months of 2014 the Spanish ports have handled a total of 307.6 million tons of cargo, an increase of 4.2% compared to 295.1 million tons in the period from January to August of last year. The cargo amounted to 145.5 million tons (+1.9%), of which 103.7 million tons of containerized cargo (+1.3%), with container handling amounted to more than 9.4 million TEUs (+2.4%) and 41.8 million tons of general cargo (+3.4%).
The volume of liquid bulk amounted to 105.5 million tons (+3.3%) and that of the cargo to 56.6 million tons (+12.8%). In the area of passenger traffic was 18.9 million units (down 2.7%), of which 4.6 million cruise passengers (0%) and 14.3 million ferry passengers (-3.6% ).
