On April 24 the king of the Netherlands will inaugurate the APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, the container terminals in the new port area Maasvlakte II of the port of Rotterdam, which is managed by the company terminal operator APM Terminals of the Danish shipping group AP Moller- Mærsk.
The terminal, become operational on 17 December with the arrival of the first ship, is the first fully automated container terminals operated by the Dutch company, with quay cranes controlled remotely.With the first phase of construction of the terminal was prepared an area of 86 hectares, a quay of 1,000 linear meters for ocean container with a draft up to 19.5 meters and a dock of 500 linear meters for barges. The annual traffic capacity of the terminal is approximately 2.7 million TEUs.
To complete the project the APM Terminals Maasvlakte II will have 2,800 meters of quay for berthing of ocean-going vessels with a traffic capacity of 4.5 million TEUs.
