The “ITF Transport Outlook 2015″ presented at the headquarters of OECD in Paris, By 2050 the total volume of international transport of goods will grow more than four times and, therefore, CO2 emissions due to freight will increase by 290%. The major source of carbon dioxide emissions will be the transport of goods.
The study also provides that the route of the North Pacific will become the world’s most widely used traffic corridor for the transport of goods (in terms of tonne-km) overtaking the North Atlantic route, and the Indian Ocean corridor will see a large growth with a quadrupled volume of goods. It will also be recorded a significant growth in the volume of freight transport intra-African (+715%) and intra-Asian (+403%), which will be dominated by road transport due to the lack of other transportation modes.
