Looking at the only traffic of final destination, considering only the ports in terms of “billed containers” without calculating the transhipment, the Italian ports improve their position in the ranking of the main European ports.
If at the top Rotterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp confirm their prominent role; between the ports of our Country, Genoa ranks eighth place, very close to Le Havre and Valencia.
The Ligurian port has the lowest share of transhipment of Europe: 6.3% of TEUs in 2013, well below the shares of all other major ports, with figures ranging from 15% of Barcelona to 50% of Valencia.
The only port that is close to Genoa is Felixstowe, not surprisingly the British port of final destination par excellence with only 8% of transshipment.
