The Japanese shipping company Mitsui Osk Lines (MOL) has confirmed the order for 6 new container ships of 20,150 TEUs of capacity to be delivered in 2017. The contract with the Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and Japan has a total value of 681 billion won (618 million $).
The four ships ordered will be 400 meters long, 58.8 wide and have a draft of 14.5 meters; they will be equipped with advanced technological systems for energy efficiency that will help further reduce in costs and consumption.
With this transaction MOL will join Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, China Shipping, UASC and Evergreen in the small circle of global carrier operating with ships between 18,000 and 20,000 TEUs.
